Musical Director

George Lawry played the French Horn in the Royal Air Force for 22 years, serving in both Germany and England. The last nine years of his service were spent in the Central Band where he performed in the major concert halls of the country as well as recording, and broadcasts for the BBC.  In addition he played for Royalty on numerous occasions.
During his RAF career he took five major examinations for promotion covering primary and secondary instruments: Horn, Trumpet and Tuba, and harmony, aural, arranging and conducting.  He qualified as a Specialist Performer (a standard equivalent to the ARCM Diploma).  As a member of the Central Band his duties included, teaching the Horn in the Royal Air Force School of Music to new entrants, personnel on courses and foreign students. He was eventually appointed Brass Leader, duties included trade training of brass musicians, making nominations for promotion examinations and supervising brass tuition in the School of Music.
He was also employed in Brass Instrument Teaching at Junior and Secondary Schools in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire including the High Wycombe Music Centre, and since leaving the RAF, continues to teach our young learners in St Erth Concert Band.
