Thursday 7th September would have been Leonard Cheshire’s 100th Birthday. He was the founder of the Leonard Cheshire Homes Charity which provides care and support to enrich the lives of adults who have many different disabilities. Amanda who plays Oboe in St Erth Concert Band works at St Teresa’s as Volunteer Coordinator, organised an Afternoon Tea Party for the Residents to celebrate this anniversary.
St Erth Concert Band came along to St Teresa’s to play and help the Residents celebrate this wonderful event. They played a fantastic variety of music from Disney themes to String of Pearls and the theme to Pirates of the Caribbean. The Residents, staff, volunteers and guests including Lord and Lady St Levan, all had a really lovely afternoon and obviously enjoyed the opportunity to listen to and experience live music.
At the Interval, the Band joined in having a “proper” Afternoon Tea with everyone with a very tasty Anniversary Cake, before treating the audience to another fantastic concert.
The staff and Residents said they had all really enjoyed the afternoon. Members of the Band said it was a really special occasion for them and they could see how much it meant to the Residents. The Band members enjoyed it so much they have asked to play at St Teresa’s again – which will be a Christmas Buffet Tea on Thursday 14th December.
